Marc Legault  (1974 - 2008)

Marc was a friend to everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.  A good athlete, a lover of the outdoors, and a great friend/brother/son, he touched everyone's life in his own special way.
Below are memorials from a sampling of his friends, family, and acquaintances.

Dominic (De) Thauvette : Spirit, Strength and Friendship: October 2, 2010

These three power full words sum up perfectly what my friend Marc Legault was all about. Whether he was ice climbing with his friend John, biking in a 24 hour marathon with Mario, white water rafting as a guide at the riviere rouge or even going hiking solo in Mount-Washington (USA), all the while making new friends along the way, Marc Legault had a great passion for the outdoors and anyone who knew Marc, would know that about him. Born in Alexandria in 1974, Marc was a person with full of life and was always supportive towards any endeavours that his friends and family may have had. One day, a group of friends got together and decided to form a soccer team called the “Alexandria Hellfish”, I had the pleasure of playing with Marc as a Hellfish and anyone who attended one of Marc’s game said that it was like watching someone who was able to control and execute a soccer ball like I’ve never see anyone do before. After being diagnosed with Cancer in October 2006 years ago, Marc’s strength and positive spirit lifted us all as he was fighting cancer. With Marc’s parents going back and fourth from Alexandria to Ottawa on a daily basis, was very exusting and straining on Marc’s family both emotionally and financially. To the family’s surprise, there was help from a local based charity on the way. The Julie MacLachlan Charity Foundation stepped up helping the Marc’s family tremendously and they could have not have done it without their help and they are eternally grateful. Nearing the end of his battle, Marc was transferred to the Elisabeth Bruyere palliative care center I did not know that a place like this ever existed. The quality of care and the support staff was nothing like I have never seen before. If I had to sum up the support staff at the center into words, I would have to say that theirs strength and incredible bond between the staff and all of Marc’s friends and family, without a doubt they became part of the family. When the doctors told Marc that he would loose the ability to walk and would have to be bedside, Marc would not have it. He would get up from his bed and walk around his room on a daily basis. Even towards the end, the doctors could not believe theirs eyes seeing Marc getting up and walking around. Helping Marc to achieve these goals gave all of us all that inner strength to keep going on. In August 5, 2008, Marc passed away peacefully with friends and family by his side. That’s why on May 3/09 at the Alexandria Sports Palace, we will be paying it forward to those who gave to Marc and his family during those difficult times, by hosting the 1rst Annual Marc Legault Euchre Tournament in his honour. Registration starts at 1:00 pm and everyone’s welcome to join.  Marc gave me a great gift of living life to the fullest by giving us all the strength and the sprit to go on.

When I think of Marc I am reminded of the importance of hugs and the rewards of a positive outlook. He was a very genuine guy and I miss him

Marc was as good a person as I have ever met. He was funny, caring, and a great friend. He was the kind of person who nobody had a bad thing to say about. You're still in all our hearts Maw!

A true testament to Marc is the legacy of love he is leaving behind. His heart was always wide open, his words always sincere and positive. His intentions, always in everyone's best interest and these qualities are greatly missed from all his friends and family.

I met Marc in Sept 2002 (when I started dating Dominic, De, Sugar...). Marc was always smiling and so full of energy - he sure did know how to have a good time and he made me feel like I was part of the "family". I miss you Marc along with your smiles (and massages).

I think my favourite quality of Marc's was his ability to make everyone feel welcome, included and like a true member of the gang. There are very few people in the world that can, or better, WILL actually go out of their way to do, which I think showed just what a caring and genuinely nice person Marc was. His undying loyalty to his friends...his infectious laughter...his eternally positive attitude, his loving nature...he was just plain, the whole package of a true friend. I'm lucky to have known Marc for as many years as I did and he is part of many of my favourite memories...and for that, I thank him.
